At the Beach with Oz Naturals

Taking care of my skin is so important to me. For years, I resented my fair skin, wishing I could have that same beautiful summer glow so many of my friends had (okay, I still wish for that from time to time). But the older I get, as I get more comfortable with myself, and I’m realizing how important it is to take care of myself.

Huge LOFT Review!

Okay, so before I post my monthly budget round-up, I thought I’d try something new. I’ve always admired Fran’s reviews, and after putting in a huge LOFT order, I thought I’d try my hand at it with a LOFT review. I picked up these items during a flash sale, when sale items were an additional 70% off and select summer favorites were an additional 60%. Here’s some yes’s, some maybe’s, and some definitely not’s.

image

I’m wearing this Antique Tile Romper in a size M. I ordered it in two sizes (wait for it…), and I really liked the fit of this one. Despite being a bit long in the torso, I was able to fold it over at the mid-section to shorten up the torso, and I like how it works.

image

This Slubbed V-Neck Tee was only $3.86, and even though it was final sale, I knew I couldn’t go wrong. I mean, if I totally hated something about it, I could always wear it as a pajama top! But after receiving it, I wish there had been more colors for me to order. The sleeve length is ideal, and it’s not see through, so I won’t have to wear a tank underneath it. Plus, who doesn’t love a little mint green?!

image

image

I’ve been looking for a chambray shell like this for a while now. I’ve tried a couple of collared options, but ultimately decided I was looking for something collarless. While I wish I had ordered this in a petite for length, I still love it, and I think I can make it work by tucking it in to pants, shorts, and skirts for work and casual wear. Online it looks much more fitted, but after reading the reviews I was prepared for how it would fit. I like that it doesn’t hug my body too closely, because I think the material would be too thin to be flattering that way.

image

I ordered this Lacy Tee in forever navy and a size M, and I love how long the sleeves hang. Cap-sleeved and sleeveless tops seem to be taking over, but neither flatter my arms. The length of the shirt itself hits right at the top of my hips, so I’ll have to be careful to hang it or lay it flat to dry.

image

This top in a petite M is on my maybe pile right now, which makes me think I should probably just take it back. It’s more grey than the blueish tone it appears to be, and I think it might just be a little too flowy to flatter my shape. I may try to play with the sleeves like the model is wearing it, because what I DO like about it is that it’s lightweight but not see-through, so I could wear it to work and not be too hot. It’s hard to tell here, but it’s also a mixed-media top. The shoulders are a crepe-y material while the rest of it is more of a cotton blend.

image

image

This sleeveless tunic sweater was a big gamble, and a big no-no. The reviews really talked it up, so I decided to give it a try. The material is fantastic and I love the color, but that’s about it. The armholes are too open (anything that shows bra is a no-no) and the large slit up the side didn’t seem to lay right on my backside. Plus, like I said, I prefer sleeves.

And now for a couple of LOL’s:
image

This gingham swing shell was so incredibly shapeless on me. Sure, I should’ve expected as much from something called a “swing shell”, but it really could’ve used a little darting, or SOMETHING. Overall, it made me look way big on top and that’s definitely not the look I’m going for. I think on a smaller-busted girl, it may hang nicer.

imageI also ordered this romper in a L petite, thinking it may be comparable to a M regular with a shorter torso. The length would’ve been better, had the top not been so overwhelmingly blousy. Just.. no. Maybe a M petite?

What do you think? Let me know if you’d like to see more reviews like this mixed in with my other posts in the comments below!

Keeping Cool with SLIMQUICK Pure

Just last week, my hometown of Appleton, WI experienced temperatures nearing 90 degrees, and the police department took to Facebook to warn people to be cautious when making plans outdoors. In Appleton, we get about 5ish days each summer when temperatures reach 90 degrees. Now that I live in Gainesville, it’s a rare day when we DON’T hit 90, and we don’t currently have central air conditioning. So what does that mean? It means I’ve had to find creative ways to keep cool.

IMG_8402I’ve never been a big water drinker (I know, awful, right?!) despite my best efforts, so water flavor packets have been a staple for me for a while. When I teamed up with SLIMQUICK, I wanted to get a little bit more creative with the SLIMQUICK Pure flavor packets, so I tried popsicles. I mean, what better way to have a tasty, hydrating treat!

IMG_8420SLIMQUICK Pure Extra Strength is designed specifically to help women lose 3 times the weight by increasing metabolism, reducing appetite, boosting energy, reducing excess water, supporting hormones and reducing stress. The best part? It’s 100% natural!

IMG_8419The Popsicle mold is from Target, and only cost me about $2. Huge tip from the wise, though – be sure to mix the powder into water BEFORE you pour into the mold! I tried to mix the powder into water after the first time I made these, and ended up with most of the powder sinking to the bottom of the Popsicle.

Budgeting Bloggers: June 2015

Last month I elected not to participate in the budgeting bloggers link-up, as I forced myself not to spend money on things I didn’t need with a big move drawing near. Now that I’m settled in Florida, I found it in my budget to secure a few pieces I love this month.

1. Mint Julep Boutique Flower Empower dress: ℅
2. H&M denim shorts (2): originally $10 ea., paid $5 ea.
3. H&M tassel earrings: paid $7
4. H&M romper: originally $17.95, paid $7
5. Loft Outlet lace top: paid $20 with LOFT Rewards
6. Lilly Pulitzer large agenda in Scuba to Cuba (not pictured): paid $28

Total spent: $52.00
Total saved: over $80.00

I have to thank Mint Julep Boutique for being such a fun company to work with! This gorgeous dress has been a summer staple for me now that I’m living in Florida. I also had my new climate in mind when I picked up these shorts and this romper, which I snagged for incredible prices at the Gainesville H&M grand opening, along with these gorgeous tassel earrings. The Loft top is something that I’d been searching for in hopes to wear with my Lilly for Target Upstream shorts, and I think it nailed it. Lastly, I grabbed a Lilly Pulitzer agenda for the coming year after having a Kate Spade planner for the past year. I chose Scuba to Cuba when I saw it in Dillard’s, even though it wasn’t my original choice – it’s just so gorgeous in person! I can’t wait to use it at my- wait for it- new job! 😀

How’d you do with your June budget?

Staying Afloat

Last week, Sam and I took a day trip to St. Augustine Beach. St. Augustine holds a special place in my heart, because it’s where he and I first met, so I always love having the chance to return. While we were at the beach, Sam lost his sunglasses in the waves; they were just a promo pair he got on campus, but left him squinting for the remainder of the day. Which got me to thinking, why don’t sunglasses float?

Enter Westwood Sunglasses, a company founded in the outdoor recreation mecca of Ogden, Utah. While their Classic Collection is available on their website now, their new Tribal Collection is being launched on their Kickstarter, which will only be available through June 30th – and this is NOT one to miss. All Westwood frames feature polarized lenses, flexible hinges, and are feather light-weight, meaning they’ll float if you accidentally drop them in the lake or ocean.

Westwood_Water

The Tribal Collection features five new frames inspired by art from cultures around the world; Tattoo features tribal tattoos from the pacific islands, Tapestry features the textile arts of ancient Latin America, Temple features the Henna patterns of India, Tundra features the feather accessory of the Native American, and Totem features the wood carvings of indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest.”

So how does supporting Westwood’s Kickstarter benefit you? Not only will you get a great pair of sunglasses handcrafted from high-quality natural woods or bamboo, you get them at wholesale prices until June 30, when the Kickstarter ends and the retail price takes effect. If you don’t have the cash for the shades right now, you can still support the cause by pledging $5 to receive a Westwood Sunglasses decal (which, based on what I’ve gathered from the company’s branding, is bound to be cool).

The Temple pair is my absolute favorite with the intricate henna pattern etched into the wood, followed closely by the Tundra pair with Native-inspired carvings.

Summer in Dresslink

Today I’ve teamed up with Dresslink to show you some of the latest, greatest, and most affordable summer pieces offered on their site. While anxiously await the shipment to arrive (I got a pair of shorts, a tank top, and a clutch all for under $20!), I thought I’d share five additional pieces I’m LOVING from Dresslink – and get this, nothing I’ve listed is over $15! At these prices, any of us can afford to spend the summer in Dresslink.

Women's Sexy Summer Dress Casual Dress Mesh Chiffon Stitching Short...

This mini-dress is only $6.45 on Dresslink! I love the simplicity that is the navy and white coloring, and the mesh bottom adds a bit of unexpected flair.

Fashion Women Ladies Floral High Waist Irregular Pencil Slim Skirt...

I almost pulled the trigger on this gorgeous asymmetrical skirt. The asymmetrical look is definitely in, and I think it’s an appropriate way to jazz up your look for the office. At $7.15, it’s a totally affordable way to try out the trend.

Women's Fashion Leather Cute Shoulder Bag Shopper Tote Bag Handbag

The only downside to this bag was how much it appeared to cost to ship it – at just $3.91, I wanted to purchase it so badly, but adding it to my cart drove up the shipping cost! Regardless, it’d be perfect for use as a briefcase-type bag to take to the office while staying cute and transitional. Did I mention it comes in three other colors?!

Dress

This dress is just asking for compliments. The gorgeous pattern looks even more beautiful in person, according to the reviews, and the intricate pattern only adds to its beauty. For just $11.84, it’s a must-have.

Jumpsuit

Last but not least, this adorable romper that costs a mere $8.60. Although it appears to be a bit revealing, I believe a simple camisole underneath would make it more appropriate and wouldn’t take away from the gorgeous colors and design. As I mentioned in my last post – I’ve definitely converted to Team Romper!

To be honest, I’ve never been crazy about rompers. They’ve become so popular as of late, but every time I’ve tried one on, I’ve been disappointed in the fit and especially the way it looks on my, erm, backside. But when I slipped into this H&M romper, which I found for a mere $7 at the Gainesville H&M grand opening event, I was instantly sold. It’s SO comfortable and SO lightweight.

I mentioned on my Instagram post last week that I’ve decided the only way to stay cool and look cute in the Florida heat is to wear dresses all summer long. But after giving this romper a try, I may have to amend that statement.

This past weekend, Sam and I took a little mini-vacation to Cedar Key, FL, and this romper was perfect for rompin’ around the quaint little town.

Aren’t these tassel earrings just too fun?! Every now and then it’s nice to be able to incorporate a big piece of jewelry, and when I saw these earrings at H&M, I knew I had to have them. I wasn’t able to find them online, but I just bought them last week, so keep an eye out in your local store!
