Huge LOFT Review!

Okay, so before I post my monthly budget round-up, I thought I’d try something new. I’ve always admired Fran’s reviews, and after putting in a huge LOFT order, I thought I’d try my hand at it with a LOFT review. I picked up these items during a flash sale, when sale items were an additional 70% off and select summer favorites were an additional 60%. Here’s some yes’s, some maybe’s, and some definitely not’s.

image

I’m wearing this Antique Tile Romper in a size M. I ordered it in two sizes (wait for it…), and I really liked the fit of this one. Despite being a bit long in the torso, I was able to fold it over at the mid-section to shorten up the torso, and I like how it works.

image

This Slubbed V-Neck Tee was only $3.86, and even though it was final sale, I knew I couldn’t go wrong. I mean, if I totally hated something about it, I could always wear it as a pajama top! But after receiving it, I wish there had been more colors for me to order. The sleeve length is ideal, and it’s not see through, so I won’t have to wear a tank underneath it. Plus, who doesn’t love a little mint green?!

image

image

I’ve been looking for a chambray shell like this for a while now. I’ve tried a couple of collared options, but ultimately decided I was looking for something collarless. While I wish I had ordered this in a petite for length, I still love it, and I think I can make it work by tucking it in to pants, shorts, and skirts for work and casual wear. Online it looks much more fitted, but after reading the reviews I was prepared for how it would fit. I like that it doesn’t hug my body too closely, because I think the material would be too thin to be flattering that way.

image

I ordered this Lacy Tee in forever navy and a size M, and I love how long the sleeves hang. Cap-sleeved and sleeveless tops seem to be taking over, but neither flatter my arms. The length of the shirt itself hits right at the top of my hips, so I’ll have to be careful to hang it or lay it flat to dry.

image

This top in a petite M is on my maybe pile right now, which makes me think I should probably just take it back. It’s more grey than the blueish tone it appears to be, and I think it might just be a little too flowy to flatter my shape. I may try to play with the sleeves like the model is wearing it, because what I DO like about it is that it’s lightweight but not see-through, so I could wear it to work and not be too hot. It’s hard to tell here, but it’s also a mixed-media top. The shoulders are a crepe-y material while the rest of it is more of a cotton blend.

image

image

This sleeveless tunic sweater was a big gamble, and a big no-no. The reviews really talked it up, so I decided to give it a try. The material is fantastic and I love the color, but that’s about it. The armholes are too open (anything that shows bra is a no-no) and the large slit up the side didn’t seem to lay right on my backside. Plus, like I said, I prefer sleeves.

And now for a couple of LOL’s:
image

This gingham swing shell was so incredibly shapeless on me. Sure, I should’ve expected as much from something called a “swing shell”, but it really could’ve used a little darting, or SOMETHING. Overall, it made me look way big on top and that’s definitely not the look I’m going for. I think on a smaller-busted girl, it may hang nicer.

imageI also ordered this romper in a L petite, thinking it may be comparable to a M regular with a shorter torso. The length would’ve been better, had the top not been so overwhelmingly blousy. Just.. no. Maybe a M petite?

What do you think? Let me know if you’d like to see more reviews like this mixed in with my other posts in the comments below!

Budgeting Bloggers: June 2015

Last month I elected not to participate in the budgeting bloggers link-up, as I forced myself not to spend money on things I didn’t need with a big move drawing near. Now that I’m settled in Florida, I found it in my budget to secure a few pieces I love this month.

1. Mint Julep Boutique Flower Empower dress: ℅
2. H&M denim shorts (2): originally $10 ea., paid $5 ea.
3. H&M tassel earrings: paid $7
4. H&M romper: originally $17.95, paid $7
5. Loft Outlet lace top: paid $20 with LOFT Rewards
6. Lilly Pulitzer large agenda in Scuba to Cuba (not pictured): paid $28

Total spent: $52.00
Total saved: over $80.00

I have to thank Mint Julep Boutique for being such a fun company to work with! This gorgeous dress has been a summer staple for me now that I’m living in Florida. I also had my new climate in mind when I picked up these shorts and this romper, which I snagged for incredible prices at the Gainesville H&M grand opening, along with these gorgeous tassel earrings. The Loft top is something that I’d been searching for in hopes to wear with my Lilly for Target Upstream shorts, and I think it nailed it. Lastly, I grabbed a Lilly Pulitzer agenda for the coming year after having a Kate Spade planner for the past year. I chose Scuba to Cuba when I saw it in Dillard’s, even though it wasn’t my original choice – it’s just so gorgeous in person! I can’t wait to use it at my- wait for it- new job! 😀

How’d you do with your June budget?

Love is in the air! It’s Valentine’s Week, and that means it’s time to celebrate not just relationships, but all the ones you hold near and dear. Which yes, means I bought my dog a Valentine’s Day gift. This entire week is also Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week. My nephew Emerson was born with a congenital heart defect, and to show support, the theme of CHD Awareness Week is to wear red. I’m also mixing a little pink into this week, since I don’t have a ton of red in my wardrobe (and pink is just diluted red, amirite?).

I’m newly obsessed with the curled ponytail look, now that my hair is finally getting long enough to pull it off. I haven’t quite perfected it, but I’m getting there! This day was uncharacteristically warm for February, so I bared my legs for some pictures. I’ve been wearing this skirt with tights, but I think it looks great by itself as well.

These are quite possibly my most painful pair of shoes, but I love the style and print so much I still wear them (just for short periods of time or to places I know I’ll have an ample amount of sitting time). The Meg pumps I tagged above from Target have a much more comfortable silhouette, and I’m dying to have them in the wine color!

And just for fun here’s a video I made to kick off CHD Week, in honor of my favorite superhero!

I don’t know about you guys, but I have MAJOR spring fever. I definitely don’t think my trip to Florida in late December/early January helped much, but knowing that I’m destined for a mild winter next year makes this one seem a little more bearable. What gets me through the winter is a solid pair of boots (or three – shout-out to my trusty Sorels, Beans, and Hunters) and my vest collection. I usually save this vest for early spring, but desperate times call for desperate measures, and I had to break it out early to add a little brightness to my outfit.

image

I’m obsessed with my Bean Boots, but they’re backordered until, like, June. If you’re interested in a pair, I suggest ordering NOW so you can get them in June and have them for next fall. I’ve also heard they’re more readily available in the summertime, so as long as you plan ahead, you should be able to get your hands on a pair. I ordered mine in September, when they were already backordered until November! If you go with the Bean Boots, I highly recommend the shearling insoles. Pay attention to sizing and SIZE DOWN! I accidentally ordered a size 7 boot and size 7 insoles, but the insoles are men’s sizes while the boots are women’s. I exchanged the insoles for a 6 and they’re a perfect fit. They’re oh-so-cozy and add just enough extra warmth to the boot – and snugness (is that a word?) if you find your boots to be a little roomy. I plan on replacing them every couple of years to bring new life to my boots!

I love how this sweater has the black dots to add just enough extra interest. I bought it last winter, but I linked an adorable jeweled option above that I may have to get my hands on.

If you haven’t been to LOFT recently, it’s time to make the trip. I met a friend at the mall last week to shop around a bit and grab dinner with no intentions of buying anything (that’s how it always goes, right?). We stopped in LOFT because I had heard about their killer sale, and boy did it impress. There was an entire wall of sweaters on final sale for only $15.88! Naturally, I had to restrain myself from buying one of each, but I landed on this beautiful drop shoulder sweater. I’ve been on the hunt for an emerald green sweater, and I wish I could articulate just how gorgeous the color of this sweater really is, but the photo above does a pretty great job. I have such luck with LOFT’s sale section that I rarely ever (if ever at all?) pay full price for anything!

These shoes got quite the attention on my IG page. They’re from Lauren Conrad’s collection at Kohl’s, and I ADORE them. To add to the topic of shoes I never thought I’d wear, I’d like to touch on another footwear feature that never appealed to me: toe cracks. Let me explain- and I’m begging you not to Google image search it- what I mean by “toe cracks”, or “toe cleavage” as I’ve more recently heard it called. Toe cracks come into play when you wear a pair of flats or heels that cover your toes, but show the “cracks”, “cleavage”, what have you. I always thought “toe cleavage” was distracting and unattractive. These shoes, however, make it totally okay in my book with the bow crossing over the cleavage.

LOFT got me again with these smoky black legging jeans and blush pouch, but can you blame me? The jeans were just $12.88, and I love how they elongate my legs when paired with heels. If you’re looking to get a pair, and are between sizes, I recommend sizing down. I have another pair of the legging jeans that are a size up from these, and these fit much better. The pouch was sitting at the register while I was checking out, and at $4.88, it was begging to go home with me.

I couldn’t not throw this leopard coat over it! How cute is it with the shoes?! Have you shopped LOFT’s final sale before? What’s your favorite find?

Good Things Come to Those Who Wait

I have a ‘thing’ about blazers. It’s not a good ‘thing’, either. I’ve never felt particularly attractive or feminine when I wear blazers, so I avoid them like the plague. It’s probably all in my head- we all have those ‘things’, don’t we?- but I have a suit that I wear for interviews, and that’s it. It’s not like I haven’t tried to like blazers before. Believe me, I’ve tried. But dang it, it just never looks right!

Enter the Lace Blazer from LOFT, and it’s a game changer. This beautiful piece gives a classic style the feminine twist I need to feel pretty. At last!

Now, I work in IT, which is a typically male-dominated field, so you can imagine I don’t rely on daily compliments to fuel my ego. But this baby got me compliment after compliment (mostly from the females in the office, but still), and how could I NOT feel feminine in a lace blazer? I paired it with a soft pink blouse and a black tulle maxi skirt (seen on my Instagram – impossible to photograph, but such a fun look!)

And here’s the best part – I paid $25 for it (EDIT: a friend of mine commented on my Instagram post saying she saw it on final sale for $9.98!! That’s insane!). I felt like I was committing a crime. I had seen it in the store before at full price ($138) and didn’t even allow myself to try it on. It just wasn’t in my budget to spend that on a blazer. (I’m about quantity over quality to a fault, people.) But, like a true mall rat, I stalked the sale racks at LOFT each visit and it finally paid off. This gorgeous blazer finally made it’s way home with me, and my head is swirling with styling ideas (hellooooo boyfriend jeans and maxi dresses). And as the raving reviews mention, it’s incredibly easy to dress up or down. In fact, (spoiler alert) I just might wear it with a chambray button down and white jeans tomorrow for casual Friday.

Unfortunately, this blazer is sold out online. But if you’re lucky, you just may find it on final sale, like me!

How do you manage to wear a blazer and feel feminine at the same time?

xoxo
